Property insurance risks in Georgia
Although Georgia lacks the extensive coastline of its Florida neighbor, it still has about 100 linear miles of Atlantic frontage. If islands, salt marshes and tidal estuaries are counted, that exposure grows to more than 2,000 miles. In addition, Georgia is in the bull’s eye of powerful tropical storms as they move inland. In this respect, Georgia faces the fierce wind and hail risks present in Florida. Beyond the coastal regions, inland and north Georgia experience seasonal thunderstorms and tornadoes. While precipitation-driven weather presents storm and flooding risks, wildfires also threaten the Southeastern states, including Georgia. However, the two risks are not entirely unrelated: Hurricane debris results in biomass that is highly combustible.
