ABOUT Missouri CHURCH INSURANCE
Religious organizations, ministries and nonprofits play a vital role in Missouri. The Show Me State is home to more than 6,000 houses of worship and about 40,000 nonprofits. Property and liability insurance can be a critical ministry partner for churches and other community-based organizations.
Property insurance risks in Missouri
Missouri shares weather-related property risks with surrounding Midwestern and Southern states. Tornadoes, thunderstorms, hail and violent windstorms are persistent threats to roofs and facility exteriors. Hail can also damage commercial vehicles, HVAC equipment and other outdoor equipment. Missouri is also bounded by the Mississippi River and split by the Missouri River – two of the nation’s major riverways. Those waterways, along with supporting tributaries, can overflow their banks and cause serious flood damage.
The state’s central location gives it an unpredictable weather forecast. Unseasonably warm winter days can be immediately followed by Canadian arctic blasts. A north-south gradient also explains snow patterns, with more than 20 inches falling north of the Missouri River, while tapering off in the state’s southern reaches. Frigid weather, dipping to 0 degrees F or below, can result in frozen and damaged pipes. Unchecked, even small water leaks can devastate houses of worship and nonprofit facilities. Southern Missouri often misses snow but experiences damaging ice cover, disrupting power and damaging infrastructure.
Finally, Missouri is home of the New Madrid Seismic Zone, which experiences hundreds of mini-quakes annually. While these are often only detectable with seismic instruments, the fault has erupted catastrophically two times in the last two centuries.
Liability risks
Missouri ministries and faith-based organizations face liability risks similar to their counterparts in other states. General liability (often called “slip-and-fall”) insurance is the first line of defense. But other coverages, including sexual misconduct, cyber security, employment practices, and embezzlement, are recommended.
about KingsCover
A solution built for churches, on purpose.
Over the past decade churches across the country have experienced rising premiums, shrinking coverage options, and fewer insurers willing to serve ministries – particularly around property, liability, counseling, and protection of children and vulnerable adults. KingsCover was built differently on purpose, with long-term ministry protection at the center.
